Neo Discovery, released in June 2001, is the eighth Pokémon TCG expansion and the second set in the Neo Series. With 75 cards, this smaller expansion focuses on evolving Johto Pokémon and introduces several fan-favorite species that have become highly collectible. Umbreon (13/75) and Espeon (1/75) are the undisputed stars of Neo Discovery, being the first Darkness-type and Psychic-type Eeveelutions in the TCG. The Umbreon holo, in particular, has become one of the most sought-after cards from the entire Neo era, with its sleek design and Dark-type aesthetic. Other notable holos include Tyranitar (12/75), Scizor (10/75), Houndoom, Wobbuffet, Hitmontop, Smeargle, and Unown. The set introduced the Unown species to the TCG, with multiple Unown cards featuring different letters of the alphabet (Unown A through Unown Z). These cards were unique for having different abilities based on their letter and remain popular with completionist collectors. Neo Discovery also introduced the concept of Pokémon with multiple types — such as the dual-type Houndoom (Darkness/Fire) — expanding deck-building possibilities. The set's Trainer card lineup includes important cards like FOCUS SIGHT, ENERGY AMPLIFIER, and MACHINE SHOP. The artwork in Neo Discovery is consistently excellent, with the holographic cards featuring the distinctive Neo Series sparkle pattern. The Umbreon and Espeon holos are universally regarded as some of the most beautiful cards in the entire TCG.
